A hearty Eastern European side dish to soups and stews.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups white whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 teaspoon yeast
  • 3/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the sugar, yeast, and milk. Stir and set aside for ~10 minutes or until foamy.
  2. Add in egg yolk, flour, and salt. Use dough hook and knead until mixture detaches from the side of the bowl. Cover and allow to rise for 2-3 hours.
  3. Once rise, divide dough into 2 loaves. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.
  4. Carefully place dumplings into the pot. Reduce heat to low (2) and allow dumplings to boil for 20 minutes, flipping once.
  5. Remove dumplings from pot and poke with a fork to release steam. Cut into 3/4” slices.
