A classic, comfort food that is warm and tasty.
Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1/2 yellow onion
- 1-15 oz. can pinto beans
- 1-15 oz. can tri-blend beans
- 2 tomatoes (or 1-15 oz. can of diced tomatoes)
- 1 Tbsp. tomato paste
- 2 Tbsp. chili powder
- 2 tsp. garlic powder
- 2 tsp. cumin
- 1 tsp. smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- Salt, to taste
- 1 tsp. maple syrup
- 1/2 Tbsp. hot sauce (optional)
- Water
Instructions
- Cook the beans (or drain and rinse if using canned). Dice the onion and tomatoes.
- In a large pot, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat (5) until ground beef is cooked all the way through. Drain excess fat, if necessary.
- Add beans, tomatoes, and tomato paste to pot. Stir well and allow to come to a simmer.
- Add seasonings, maple syrup, and hot sauce (if using), along with just enough water to cover everything (~1 cup). Bring to a boil, then lower heat to medium-low (3). Simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
