A classic, comfort food that is warm and tasty.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 yellow onion
  • 1-15 oz. can pinto beans
  • 1-15 oz. can tri-blend beans
  • 2 tomatoes (or 1-15 oz. can of diced tomatoes)
  • 1 Tbsp. tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 2 tsp. cumin
  • 1 tsp. smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tsp. maple syrup
  • 1/2 Tbsp. hot sauce (optional)
  • Water

Instructions

  1. Cook the beans (or drain and rinse if using canned). Dice the onion and tomatoes.
  2. In a large pot, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat (5) until ground beef is cooked all the way through. Drain excess fat, if necessary.
  3. Add beans, tomatoes, and tomato paste to pot. Stir well and allow to come to a simmer.
  4. Add seasonings, maple syrup, and hot sauce (if using), along with just enough water to cover everything (~1 cup). Bring to a boil, then lower heat to medium-low (3). Simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
