A delightful way to change up apple pie.

Ingredients

Apple filling

  • 1 1/2 large apples
  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. orange juice or water
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp. ginger
  • Pinch of cardamom
  • 1 Tbsp. flour or 2 tsp. cornstarch

Egg wash

  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. milk

Instructions

  1. Slice apples into 1/4” slices. Add to a bowl along with remaining apple filling ingredients. Set aside.
  2. Make pie crust. Roll out into a circle ~1/8” thick. Add apples to the center, leaving a 2” border.
  3. Fold up pie crust around apples. Brush outside with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar. 
  4. Bake at 375°F for 32-35 minutes, until outside is golden brown. Halfway through cooking, rotate pan and pour any juices left from the apples into the center of the galette.
  5. Allow to cool on baking sheet for at least 5 minutes before serving.
