Refried beans

Yield: 3-4 servings

Total Time: 12 minutes

A great side dish for any Mexican meal.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cooked black or pinto beans
  • 1/2 cup broth
  • 1/4 tsp. each garlic powder, cumin, pepper, and salt

Instructions

  1. Drain beans, if needed. Add to a pot along with remaining ingredients.
  2. Allow to cook on medium-high (6) heat for 5-10 minutes, covered. Remove lid and mash beans with a potato masher.
  3. Reduce heat to medium-low (3). Continue simmering and mashing until desired consistency, ~3 more minutes.

Notes

For smoother refried beans, allow to cool slightly then blend with food processor.
