A hearty Eastern European side dish to soups and stews.
Ingredients
- 3 cups white whole wheat flour
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/2 teaspoon yeast
- 3/4 teaspoon sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, add the sugar, yeast, and milk. Stir and set aside for ~10 minutes or until foamy.
- Add in egg yolk, flour, and salt. Use dough hook and knead until mixture detaches from the side of the bowl. Cover and allow to rise for 2-3 hours.
- Once rise, divide dough into 2 loaves. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil.
- Carefully place dumplings into the pot. Reduce heat to low (2) and allow dumplings to boil for 20 minutes, flipping once.
- Remove dumplings from pot and poke with a fork to release steam. Cut into 3/4” slices.
