When I think of a classic American dinner, this is what comes to mind.
Ingredients
- 2-10 oz. ribeye steaks
- 3-4 medium potatoes, peeled
- 1/2 lb. green beans
Instructions
Steaks
- Rinse steaks and pat dry. Preheat skillet to medium (5) heat.
- Once hot, lightly coat skillet with oil. Add steaks, and season with salt and pepper. Allow to cook for 3-7 minutes per side, depending on desired doneness.
- Allow to rest for 3-5 minutes before serving.
Mashed potatoes
- Bring enough water to a boil to cover the potatoes well. In the mean time, peel and roughly cut potatoes into medium pieces.
- Once potatoes are cut, add to boiling water, along with ~2 tsp. of salt. Boil on medium-low (3) heat until fork tender. Drain and return to pot, reserving ~1/4 c. of cooking liquid.
- Add cooking liquid, along with salt and seasonings. Mash until desired consistency, adding milk or water, if needed.
Green beans
- Cut ends off of all green beans. Boil over medium (4) heat until starting to become tender, ~4-6 minutes. Drain, then pat dry. In same skillet used for steaks, sauté green beans until desired texture. Add salt or other seasonings, to taste.
