My first experience with black soap was when I was in Ghana. Ironically enough, I didn’t even use it until I got back to the US. Once I tried it, I have had no thoughts of turning back. Below is how I make this liquid black soap, as well as how I use it.

How to make liquid black soap

This liquid face wash/shampoo is super simple to make. All you need is a bar of black soap and water. Here are the few instructions to make it:

1. Grate the bar of soap. You only need 100g/3.5 oz. That is enough to make 4 cups of liquid soap which will last a long time (like 6 months+).

2. Put the grated soap in a 4-cup glass container. Add water to the halfway line, then swirl around. This will make it easier for the soap to dissolve into the water.

3. Add water to the top, and continue swirling until soap is dissolved. Allow to rest 24 hours before using so sediment can settle to the bottom.

Notes

• I like to use purified/filtered water since it will be going on my face. However, tap water will likely work, as long as it is decent quality.
• Essential oils are optional, but I prefer to add them. Not only do they make the soap smell good, but have antiseptic and antibacterial properties, also. I add them to the dispenser each time I refill is as opposed to the entire jar of liquid soap so they can be as fresh as possible.
• Once the soap has been dissolved, there will be sediment at the bottom. Therefore, it is not recommended to stir it before use. Simply pour the soap off the top each time, and discard whatever is left at the bottom.
• This soap can be used as is, but I think it is best out of a foaming soap dispenser.

How to use liquid black soap

This soap has many uses, and has replaced several products for me. At first, I tested it as shampoo. However, once I realized I could use it as face wash and hand soap, as well, I was very excited. I’ve been using this liquid black soap in my beauty routine for over a year now, and I have no plans on turning back.

As shampoo

This liquid black soap is what I use as regular shampoo. It does everything a store-bought shampoo can do, but doesn’t have any of the added chemicals. I have no plans on ever going back to using any other type of shampoo on my hair.

As face wash

Using the foaming soap dispenser makes this the perfect foamy face wash. It successfully cleans the oil off my skin, while not being too drying or harsh. Not only that, but the essential oils smell great and have great benefits for my face, as well.

As hand soap

I use this as the regular hand soap at my bathroom sink. I trust it’s cleaning power, and the essential oils give it an extra boost. Not only that, but the foaminess makes it the perfect lathering soap.
